Kaoru is the younger of the Hitachiin twin brothers, and is considered the 'uke' of their... questionable relationship that seems to be laden with homosexual tendencies. This is self-proclaimed.
The twins have always been inseparable from one another. As Hikaru is the 'dominant twin' (mainly in terms of age, coming up with ideas, and in personality), Kaoru has no problem in going along for the ride. This comes with the basis that he would always ride in the theoretical passengers seat however, and never take backseat to his twin. Of course, that doesn't mean that he wouldn't do it anyway.
Its been noted that Kaoru is the more mature of the twins. Over the years of harboring the fear that perhaps they would never be individual from one another, it allow Kaoru to realize he needed to know how to better express himself. He has taken a deeper understanding to his emotions, and realizes that he is the one who manages to watch over Hikaru's and keep his twin somewhat in check. Without him, Hikaru has a tendency to blow up or get overexcited (not in the good way, mind you). Kaoru is always there to run after him and make sure things are all right, and if they are not, will attempt to find a way to fix it so it doesn't look too meddlesome (which would only upset his brother further).
Both of them are tricksters, so while Hikaru comes up with the ideas mainly, Kaoru is quick to follow along and make sure their trick is seen through. Anything is fair game as long as it doesn't really hurt anyone. However, the game is over when one of them gets hurt, through in front of others they will attempt to play it off. Once alone, however, their true feelings come out as they quietly lick their woundsum, not... actually lick them of course, right? RIGHT. They have no problems laughing at the expense of others (and sometimes each other). Laughter is the best medicine, after all~! They also imploy fight tactics against one another so people will believe they are at odds. They only do this, however, to reach some sort of means. It all depends on what they are trying to accomplish.
Kaoru has a hard time opening up to people other than his twin, though things have changed a lot since he and Hikaru joined the Host Club. Slowly, they are gaining more and more friends thanks to Tamaki who founded the Host Club at their school, Ouran. (They refer to Tamaki as “Boss” or “Mi'Lord” as he is the “King” of the Host Club.) However, even so they are still the closes to one another. Tamaki makes the comment in one episode where Hikaru runs off after being slapped by Haruhi by making fun of one of her friends, that “their world is still so small”. Even after meeting many new people due to the Host Club, the twins still have a tough time with letting their feelings be known to others. When they were younger, they would pick on and belittle those whom were unable to tell them apart. Now, they use this fact to play the “Which One is Hikaru?” game to amuse themselves and others. Kaoru has used the fact they are twins to pose as Hikaru, that way he could apologize to a guy Hikaru had been rude to. There is very little that they will not do for one another.
Another tactic they employ is their relationship with one another. They have claimed that they are “both beautiful and homosexual”, and they use that tactic to lure in women. They play off an incestuous relationship with each other “constantly battling their friendship as brothers and their mutual attraction towards one another”. They usually drape over one another, hug, touch faces, stroke jawlines and chins, whisper dirty, suggestive phrases so others can hear, and just in general beat the ever-living shit out of homoerotic subtext, pushing it to its limit. Kaoru plays the submissive role, the “uke”, during these times, usually being the one to become upset about cute, simple things, or whispering Hikaru's name to him when the other proclaims he will defend and/or protect him. Whether its an act or not is up to the viewers~ ♥ However, they do spend time together, even going so far as at home sleeping together in the same bed in only their underwear. Hmm. He a touch whinier than the other twin, but only uses that voice when he's playing off his twin's emotions.
Both of them were raised in luxury and consider themselves 'aristocracy'. They have a taste for only the finer things in life, and have an eye for luxury and refinement. If anything is sub-par, their sensitive tastes can easily pick it out, whether food or clothing (especially since their mother is a fashion designer). Because of this Kaoru can be a bit lazy when it comes to things like chores, but when it something for the fun of it, any amount of work is acceptable (well, you know, except hard labor or anything like that). They don't really see anything as excessive, and both twins have a general lack of knowledge of anything that's considered to be on a 'commoner' level. However, thanks to Haruhi, they have been learning... but not a lot.
Once, Kaoru had feelings for Haruhi, but stepped aside so his twin brother would have a chance at winning her heart, as he felt that Hikaru needed to learn more about feelings and how to manage them. This, however, has put a one-sided strain on their relationship. A part of him wonders, if Hikaru falls in love with someone what will happen to him? Would they be pushed aside? Separated? Would Hikaru forget about him entirely in favor of this new someone? And, would that other person be his brother's true soul mate, and they would no longer be as unified as they once were? In the Halloween Episode of Host Club, when Hikaru abandoned Haruhi to go and look for his brother, Kaoru had a heartfelt moment when he felt as if perhaps Hikaru did still care about him more than Haruhi, and perhaps their relationship wouldn't be lost. He realizes, though, while he himself has come to terms with his feelings for Haruhi and still cares for her deeply, he knows that Hikaru hasn't yet realized his true feelings for the young woman.

Kaoru pushed her out of the way, but was cut across the face when a shard of the ceramic pot smashed onto the porch. Hikaru came running and they shared a “brotherly love” moment, therefore winning the contest. However, as soon as they were alone in the bedroom, Hikaru showed real sign of worry as he held Kaoru's hand tightly. All Kaoru could do was assure him he was all right, and that they were able to stay in the same place as Haruhi like they wanted to. Kaoru being hurt is not cool, even if it did get them what they wanted, and the cut wasn't even that bad. Slap a band-aid on the sucker and it was a good as new.
Apart of Hikaru, Kaoru does have a few of his own likes and dislikes. Unlike his brother whom enjoys Math and other similar pursuits, Kaoru is a fan of English and Modern Literature. He enjoys reading and writing and has a penchant for Italian food, as well as “super-spicy” types of food. They both have a penchant for fashion and make-up, as Kaoru has been seen a couple of times utilizing it (once on Haruhi, and the other time on himself, using concealer to hide a cut). Out of the two, he isn't quite as mischievous as Hikaru, and that was how Haruhi was able to tell them apart.
ABILITIES: Along with the given God-like abilities, Kaoru is a trickster along with his brother, Hikaru. Also, while it may not count as an ability, Kaoru has a keen eye for appearances and notices the small details that his counterpart may miss.

Their day of the week is Wednesday (always good to set aside time to listen to the followers).

As the two like exploration, their followers found cities in their name as they go and explore new lands. When they do, they make sure to erect their symbol: a double-layered star. The larger star symbolizes Hikaru and the smaller Kaoru, as they both claim that if they ever leave the plane of godhood, they would be reborn together as a single star to symbolize their eternal unity. Of course, for those whom are unable to just get up and explore, doing something simple as learning something new, or shall we say... consummating your love for your soul mate is always worthy of a thumbs up.
Separately: Kaoru is a patron for wives, sisters, and daughters when it comes to the union between a man an a woman. In any partnership, he is the patron for the submissive side. He can be the god for secret-keepers, especially when those secrets are about forbidden or taboo love (or anything taboo in general). He won't tell anyone. As Kaoru promotes rational thought, there is a chance that scholars, military generals, and even other such leaders will find him suitable, however if they are leaders looking for action, inspiration, and ideas, its best to look to Hikaru instead. He doesn't mind if you pray at his or he and Hikaru's temple. They are, after all, one in the same, but don't you dare pray at Hikaru's temple by mistake. Offerings of flowers are suitable for the poor, but what he really likes are works of art, and even confessions of naughty secrets so that he can take on the hard burden. He understands. Anything beautiful is always noteworthy to him, so getting paintings hung up on the walls of palaces or rich lord's houses of him always makes him happy.
